1) SHARE WITH YOUR FRIENDS
Word of mouth recommendations are what small businesses rely on most for marketing as high dollar advertisement campaigns, boosting promotions and renting a billboard are out of their budget! Your simple “you should check out my friends business” holds a lot of weight (and is SO APPRECIATED!)
2) ENGAGE
Follow their social media page. Sign up for their newsletters. Comment on posts. Like their funnies. Not only does it help extend their reach, its really a bright spot in their day to see their hard work is seen and noticed!
3) BE SUPPORTIVE
For the small business or work-from-home mom or side hustle, they are lacking the kudos of a larger corporation. They don't get the pat on the back from co-workers or approving nod from a boss. So hearing a few words of encouragement from you goes a long way!
4) DONT SCHMOOZE
Asking for a discount or free service is tacky and honestly, demoralizing. Instead of honoring their time and talent, trying to get a break says you don't see the value in their work. They are working to support themselves or their family and you can either champion those efforts or cripple them.
