This Month’s Little Gift Has Something to Say
If you love the mood of October but don’t want every piece of fall decor covered in pumpkins, meet this month’s free printable. Even in the Dark, You Bloom is a 5 × 7 art print featuring a pale green moth beneath a crescent moon, surrounded by stars and autumn flowers. Its deep background and warm gold lettering give it a little nighttime magic, while the message brings something hopeful to the season.
You can download October’s print for free, whether or not you subscribe. If you’d like to hear about new designs each month, you can also join The Printables Club.
Whether you’ve been collecting them since the beginning or this is the first one to catch your eye, you’re welcome to grab a copy and make it your own.
A different kind of October wall art
There are plenty of cheerful pumpkins and playful Halloween prints to choose from this time of year. I wanted October’s design to go in another direction: darker, more floral, and easy to display long after the holiday decorations are packed away.
At the center of the artwork is a moth with soft green wings. A crescent moon hangs above it, while stars and flowers fill the space around it. Rust, plum, olive, and gold bring warmth to the dark background. The result feels distinctly autumnal without relying on a date or holiday, so you can leave it up for as long as you like.
The words Even in the Dark, You Bloom are part of what makes this print feel at home in October. As the days get shorter and the light changes, the message offers a small reminder that growth doesn’t always look bright or obvious while it’s happening. Sometimes you only notice it when you look back.
Where to put a 5 × 7 printable
One of my favorite things about a 5 × 7 print is how little space it needs. You don’t have to rearrange a whole room to give it a home. Place it in a frame on your desk, lean it against the back of a bookshelf, or add it to a small group of framed photos and artwork.
For a fall display, try pairing it with pieces you already own in darker colors or warm metallic finishes. A black frame lets the night sky blend into its surroundings and draws attention to the moth and lettering. A gold frame picks up the stars and moon. If your space is lighter and softer, a simple wood frame creates a gentle contrast.
You could also make it the first piece in a small seasonal gallery wall. Surround it with artwork, photos, or postcards that share one or two of its colors. The pieces don’t have to match exactly; repeating a little green, rust, or gold is enough to help them feel connected.
A small print that makes a thoughtful gift
A printable is easy to share when you want to do something kind without making a big production of it. Frame a copy for a friend who’s moving into a new space, tuck one into a care package, or give it to someone who could use an encouraging message.
The wording is open enough to mean different things to different people. For one person, it might be a reminder to keep going through a difficult stretch. For another, it might simply be a beautiful piece of autumn art. You don’t need to explain what it should mean—the person receiving it can bring their own story to it.
If you’re gifting the print, consider choosing a frame that suits their space rather than your own. The artwork has enough color and detail to stand on its own, so even a simple frame will finish it beautifully.
How to print the artwork
This design is intended to be printed at 5 × 7 inches. Before you print, check the size and scaling settings in your printer dialog. A preview will help you spot unwanted cropping or a setting that stretches the image to fill a different paper size.
Paper makes a difference, especially with artwork that has a dark background and fine details. Matte photo paper is a good choice if you like a smooth finish with little glare. Heavier cardstock can work well, too, though the result will depend on your printer and the paper you use. If you’re printing at home, make sure you have enough ink before you begin as this design uses considerably more dark color than a mostly white print.
You can also have the file printed by a local print shop and ask for a 5 × 7 print. Once you have it in hand, trim it if needed, pop it into a frame, and it’s ready to display. There’s no complicated project hiding behind this freebie.
